Powder Coating

Powder Coating is the most durable and cost effective method of product finishing. As there is very little wastage during Electrostatic spraying and, because powder coating emits zero or near zero volatile organic compounds (VOC), it is also more environmentally and user friendly. AS uses the latest products to supply a Grade A finish and we have an extensive range of colours in stock to suit all needs.

Why Use Powder Coating?

Why Use Powder Coating?

Lead times are a lot shorter as the powder dries more quickly.

It creates a harder, heavier and more durable finish than painting.

It's more environmentally friendly than most common paint processes.

It's more resistant to chemicals, ultraviolet light and temperature.

And you can choose from a huge range of colours - from standard RAL and BS numbers to metallics.

Preparation

Preparation

Preparation is the key to a long lasting finish, and AS can offer the following options:

Grit and bead blasting
Zirconium pre-treatment
Primers
Specialist masking - intricate masking to protect machined surfaces

All coatings are applied by skilled powder coaters/paint sprayers. Machines cannot give the same attention to detail.

How it Works

How it Works

Most items brought to AS are treated with fine media, blasted in our in-house bays to give the best surface to powder. We can offer anything from a fine glass bead finish to a shot-blasted surface, using materials like copper slag, chilled iron and garnet. Where this is not possible, we pre-wash the metal to clean the surface from any contamination.

After the surface preparation has been completed, phosphate primers can be applied prior to a topcoat finish. We use these primers to enable the metal surface to stop the progress of oxidation underneath the paint when damaged by an external impact, offering a more durable result. We then powder the item with the latest products to give the best finish possible. Our in-house facility can accommodate all items up to 4 to 5 metres in length, depending on the dimensions.

All items are left to cool down and then packaged up, ready for collection.
